Conservation Finance
GGF AFRICA offers green finance and transaction advisory. Our aim is to motivate private sector participation in sustainable development through the development of marketable “impact” investment instruments to mobilize resources. This is a rapidly growing field, and we believe that our expertise can help clients to make a positive impact on the environment and society.

The firm’s expertise in green finance and transaction advisory will help clients to develop and implement sustainable projects that can attract private investment.
We are committed to delivering high-quality services that meet the needs and expectations of our clients and their funders. We are also passionate about advancing the conservation agenda in Africa, by supporting the protection and restoration of its rich biodiversity and natural resources.
By working with GGF AFRICA, our clients can benefit from our extensive experience, network, and expertise in conservation finance. GGF AFRICA is a member of the prestigious Conservation Finance Alliance.
Our Services:
- Project/Business case design and development: We assist private entrepreneurs and Government agencies to develop and aggregate specific investment cases in the biodiversity economy that are aligned with their mission and vision, as well as the needs and expectations of funders and stakeholders. This entails identifying and assessing investment opportunities, developing business plans, and securing financing.
- Development of Biodiversity Investment Portals: GGF AFRICA can develop Biodiversity Investment Portals in different jurisdictions. These portals serve as a digital marketplace where investors, investees, and intermediaries can share and explore biodiversity investment opportunities. The portal provides a platform for investors to connect with entrepreneurs, to learn about investment opportunities, and to track the performance of their investments.
- Fundraising and resource mobilization: We help our clients secure and diversify their funding sources, by preparing proposals, development of green bonds and other sustainable debt instruments, facilitating negotiations, and managing contracts and agreements with donors and investors. We engage with biodiversity investors to mobilize investment from the private sector, conservation grant finance sector, public finance, and multilateral sectors. We help investors to understand the biodiversity economy and to identify attractive investment opportunities.
- Financial management and reporting: We provide our clients with financial management and reporting services, such as budgeting, accounting, auditing, compliance, and impact measurement, to ensure transparency and accountability of their conservation funds.
- Capacity building and technical assistance: We offer our clients capacity building and technical assistance such as financial planning, governance, risk management, monitoring and evaluation, and communication/ content and advocacy.
- Impact Assessment: We assist our clients in assessing the positive and negative impact of investing in green or conservation finance initiatives. This process helps stakeholders to understand the potential outcomes of their investments, and to assess if they are actually meeting their desired impact goals. Impact assessment can include tracking different metrics, such as job creation, economic growth, energy savings, and carbon emissions reductions. It can also include non-financial measures, such as biodiversity conservation, improved water quality, and community health benefits.
The Case for Green Finance
In an increasingly resource-limited world, subject to the effects of climate change, and marked by deepening inequalities, there is a compelling case for green finance. Green finance is an asset class that invests in projects and businesses that have a positive impact on the environment and society.
There is a significant unsustainable funding gap for green projects. This gap is impeding progress towards meeting the desired goals and objectives of the Paris Agreement and other climate change commitments. Of all the mitigation and adaptation response measures, financial interventions are lagging the most. Addressing the finance gap is now of the utmost importance.
The public sector alone cannot cover this financial need. The feasibility of increasing budgetary allocations from the national treasury is limited due to restricted fiscal space at national, provincial, and local government levels. To bridge the funding gap, cost-effective operations, private-sector investment, and global finance solutions should be prioritized, as well as partnerships with impact investors.
With a projected global population of 9.7 billion by 2050, and the ever-intensifying consequences of climate change, there is need to act now to develop strategies for managing and investing that both benefit society and the environment and provide a financial return.
Green finance offers a number of advantages for investors, companies, and governments. For investors, green finance can provide a diversified portfolio with attractive risk-adjusted returns. For companies, green finance can help to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and gain a competitive advantage. For governments, green finance can help to achieve environmental and social goals, while also stimulating economic growth.
The time is now to act on green finance. By investing in green projects, we can help to build a more sustainable future for all.
